3 Ways to Defend Yourself Without a Firearm in a SHTF Situation
In this video, I talk about 3 things you can do to defend yourself or family without a firearm in an SHTF situation.
1. Hand to Hand Self Defense
2. Using something other than a firearm to defend yourself.
3. Things you can do to help avoid being attacked in the first place
Almost anything other than a firearm will be a lot less effective.

I actually got burned out of watching most prepper and solar prep videos for a couple years until I ran acrossed yours. And I must say you've rejuvenated my interest to keep going. Very well presented and explained on all your videos, much appreciated, my hats off to you sir! Thanks!!!

    I have this same AC unit and I’m running off of a generator 3500 with a 4250 surge on a 93° day and it’ll just barely run this air conditioner because the compressor is surging in and out. I’m just curious whether to take this AC back to Walmart.

    Normally most appliances have a spec tag that shows the amps and voltage that the appliance uses. But the spec tag also has a reading called LRA on the tag. LRA stands for Lock Rotor Amps. Multiply this reading on the tag by the voltage, "LRA times Voltage" and this will be the surge watts the appliance will pull. Lock Rotor really means on an appliance that has a motor in it, what the amps would be if the motor locked up. But I was an Electrical Contractor for 44 years, a Heating and Air Conditioning Contractor for 44 years and a Electrical Inspector for 9 years and the formula I showed above is the easiest way to find the surge amps without a really good amp meter. Look on your outside Air Conditioning Condenser and find LRA on your AC Unit and use the above formula and it will help you know if a Power Station or Dual Fuel generator can start you Air Conditioner. I like your videos.

    • @LoneStarPrepping
      @LoneStarPrepping День тому

      Actually, the little tag that shows amps usually give you max running amps, not surge. When you multiply by volts, it sometimes is lower than even the actual max running watts and has nothing to do with the startup or surge watts. On a fridge, that formula does not work for surge watts on a non inverter fridge. I have a series of videos that go into detail about how to manage solar charged portable power stations, which includes clamp meter and line splitter. This is the most accurate way to find out surge watts. I go over the appliance lables, of course, as well... ua-cam.com/video/yoPLzOlUez0/v-deo.htmlsi=N2UmHdjz8awnDR4e

      @@LoneStarPrepping I was just telling you about this method for your viewers that don't have volt and amp meters. Not all amp meters will show the max current at start up. It is also hard to get a surge amp reading on a 240 volt split phase load or any 3 phase load that has 208, 240, or 480 volt 3 phase. My formula will help with all single phase, split phase, and all 3 phase loads. I know that they don't have small solar power stations that have 3 phase, But they will soon. I have worked on lots of 3 phase fuel powered generators. I know they already make 3 phase inverters for large commercial buildings that have solar panels and all solar farms have to use 3 phase inverters. I am just mentioning a way that can get a surge amp rating using a simple formula on all types of electrical hookups like your 240 volt split phase central air conditioner. Have a great day.

    • @LoneStarPrepping
      @LoneStarPrepping День тому

      I appreciate that, but I explained that basic formula as well in the video link I sent. This video was not about how to use the clamp or formula. It was partially about proving the surge rather than me just telling people how to test the surge.

    You mentioned 120W draw from your TV in "power save" mode. In case you weren't aware, there's an alternative to using the "power saving" setting on your TV. Deep within your flatscreen menus, there is a setting called "backlight." You can use this setting and not mess with your general settings. On my LG, the backlight setting can be configured from 0-100. Running as normal, with grid power, 100 provides a beautiful and super bright viewing experience and pulls 240+W. However, when I'm running on batts, I turn the backlight down to "4" and my 65" pulls between 55 and 65 watts...depending on how bright the scene is. It's a much dimmer picture than normal but in all honesty, your eyes adjust in just a few minutes and you don't even notice. That could save you another 300WH over 5 hours.

    someone gave me a crank radio very much like the RunningSnail (and in fact mine was an Eton "Microlink 160"). It was terrible from day 1. The solar charger never worked. The USB connector never worked. Cranking for 3 minutes would get you almost a minute of radio play time. The switch to turn on the radio has become dirty, and it will no longer reliably turn the radio on. I will never consider purchasing a hand crank radio. They are a waste of money.

    • @LoneStarPrepping
      @LoneStarPrepping 8 днів тому

      Sorry to hear you had problems, but 11,400 people, at least, rated the cheapest one a 4.5 on average. For you to conclude that because your one radio had problems, you would never buy ANY crank radio again, after seeing my tests, is a little short sided. If not a crank radio, what radio would you buy for emergencies?

    • @ccscomments757
      @ccscomments757 8 днів тому

      @@LoneStarPrepping The August 2020 derecho in Iowa sealed the fate of a handcrank 'emergency radio' in my eyes. I was without power for 11 days. I didn't touch that crank radio. While internet over cell phone was almost non-existant, we did have sporadic cell phone service. The car radio (even in my tree damaged SUV) was still operable (even though many local radio stations were off the air or on reduced power due to damage to towers, communication lines, lack of backup power, etc. Oddly, my landline telephone was still in operation even though the neighbors to each side of me had no landline telephone. In my opinion, keeping a couple of spare (and charged) batteries around (with the ability to recharge a cell phone or jumpstart a car) is a good idea. A hand crank will only generate a tiny amount of power (and I wonder how long those solar panels will take to recharge a standard 5000mAh cell phone battery? How many cranks of that generator?). In the aftermath of that storm, there were enough resources available to keep the batteries topped off. Finding an open gas station selling fuel was more of a challenge (often involving a 30 minute drive to wait in a line nearly 90 minutes. Every car had not only the car's fuel tank, but also at least one or two extra fuel containers for generators and chainsaws, as a hand crank generator will not supply enough power.). And as for the NWS broadcasts, I often find them to be too late. The bad stuff has already gone down by the time the NWS puts out a warning. Look at a good radar through a mobile app, THAT will help you more. Yup, that storm changed my perspective.

      Im not trying to talk you into a crank radio, even though it is a good idea. You do what you think is best, and after an emp hits, I will take my crank radio out of my faraday cage and be able to use it whereas you will have nothing. Good luck with that.

    I appreciate this info!! I have a Delta Max 2 & just got a Wave 2 for my box truck conversion. Wave is a little underpowered, then I found out I need to buy a $140 cable to link them for DC power 😬. Sending that expensive thing back and probably getting this midea. The Wave used about 500w from the AC out and supposed to be 5100 BTU but doesnt feel like it, plus the design loses a lot of thermal efficiency. This confirms my Delta 2 can start it and my solar can sustain it during the day for my 100sq ft space. Thanks again for the video!

A standard cord with too much power running through it is both a serious fire risk but can easily turn your generator into a big metal box unable to give you the power you'd planned on. It all comes down to your generator's power output. Ours can run most things in our home and the cord for that was near $150. The price tag can be off-putting but it's essential to get this bit done right. Excellent video, you can tell you lived in a place previously where being prepared is a must just during normal winters.

      I have a couple videos showing us going through a self made 24hr power outage. I believe I spoke about the cord and how an electrician set us up with the correct size. Thanks for comment.

    I have 2 Delta Pro batteries and several 400W solar panels and just bought 570W window unit for possible summer rolling black outs. Being able to cool a small space for awhile gives you time to plan, but still worry about a long term, days or weeks, power outage where it's possible that no gas pumps will be working and a full tank doesn't even get you out of Texas if you need to.

      There is no "best" radio for that, but I think the midland radio may be helpful. The weather part is just one feature. However, I think the best is some kind of ham radio. I have videos on this. Keep them in a faraday cage.

      Pretty close, but I would add butter or some kind of fat and baking powder, and I would be a little more careful about the water to flour ratio (hydration) etc... Also I would knead it until very smooth...

    I've got a GREAT idea for all these Emergency radios: one of the radio bands should be TV audio so while you're sitting there powerless, at least you can listen to your favorite TV shows. EZ to design into these radios and worth every penny while you're sitting there doing nothing IMHO.

    I just bought this same unit to use with my Bluetti portable solar power station for a small off grid cabin. Once this unit cools the space to the desired coolness setting, does it automatically cycle off and on while maintaining the room coolness? Or does it just always blast cool air nonstop? And if it does cycle on and off, how long are the gaps between times that it cuts on and off typically?

    My Frigidaire draws 400w max and has soft start and slowly ramps up from 230w or so to 400w. Averages 150 bucks online. My Bluetti EB70 can run it in a pinch for over an hour on high but I use a 300ah LiFeP04, solar panels, and a 2000w inverter.

      @@LoneStarPrepping Frigidaire FFRA051WAE. I saw it a few years ago on the Professor solar guy`s vids. A tiny little cheap 900w generator ran it so I got both but later had enough to get the big battery for Louisiana storms.

      Looks like a nice little unit. I think it is very much like what I have except you say it has soft start. I cannot find anywhere online where it says soft start. Please forward link. That would be the one thing that I would like better than my unit. Mine uses 100 watts more at times but I think that means more cooling by more fan power, and my portable power station can easily handle that. The issue is about keeping the start up watt demand down. Thats why I want the info about the soft start you said it has.

      @@LoneStarPrepping I think that means it doesn't surge at a higher wattage when started, it starts at a lower wattage then slowly ramps up to the running watts, again I think

      A regular freezer is designed to work within a smaller temperature range in a controlled interior environment, like a house. Garage ready freezers are equipped to handle a larger fluctuation of external temperatures, with a range of 0-110°F. This room for fluctuation allows you to place your freezer in the garage in the summer and throughout the winter and worry less about whether or not it may be able to handle harsh temperatures.
